Tripodfish summary: Bathypterois grallator
FishBase · Records elongated fin rays, perching, current-facing feeding and synchronous hermaphroditism.
Yah fish swim nahi karti balki khadi hoti hai. Yeh hai tripod fish.
What this reel claims
Tripod fish use elongated fin rays to perch above the deep-sea floor.
They often face into the current and feed on small drifting crustaceans.
Bathypterois grallator is a simultaneous hermaphrodite.
Evidence behind the story

Marine Biology Research · Comparative anatomical evidence for specialised rays and locomotion.
What didn’t fit
The useful story is not that the tripod fish “gave up” swimming. Deep-sea life rewards a different energy budget. Elongated fin rays let the animal hold a feeding position above the sediment while current carries small prey toward it. The structures are not simply legs, and sources are more careful than the common “blind fish with antennae” label. Reproduction needs equal precision: simultaneous hermaphroditism is documented, but that does not automatically prove routine self-fertilisation.
